A while back, Rebekah tweeted a link to an image of her first “TV boyfriend,” saying that you never forget your first. That got me thinking about my own fictional boyfriends, whether it be from books, movies, or TV, and the various reasons why I loved each one of them.

  • Rob Wilkins from 1-800-WHERE-R-YOU series by Meg Cabot
Oohhhh, Rob Wilkins. The mysterious older guy (at 18, he was two years older than the main character in the series, Jess) who was on probation for a reason he refused to tell Jess. He wasn’t a hardened criminal or anything though, he lived with his single mom and provided for her by working in his uncle’s mechanic garage. He had his own motorcycle too, a Harley Davidson, if I remember correctly. Man, the way he was depicted in the books made him seen like a teenage girl’s dream, and he was by far my favorite character in the series.
  • Ishmael Chambers from Snow Falling on Cedars
Played by Ethan Hawke, Ishmael is the perfect gentleman, the first love that is always in your life, and whom you will never stop loving, albeit in a different way than before. I love his earnestness and his steadfast belief to do what is right, no matter what the cost, or what the consequences are.
  • Seth Cohen from The OC
Who doesn’t love Seth? Played by Adam Brody, he’s the cute, geeky, nerdy, lovable boyfriend. And even though at first he got a little overwhelmed with girls (early season 1, anyone?), you knew he was the guy you could count on. He might not have been able to throw a punch the way Ryan Atwood could, but at least you could have a proper conversation with talkative Seth!
  • Noah Calhoun from The Notebook
I love both the book and movie version of The Notebook, and Noah and Allie’s relationship is what I really love. Noah is perfect. He’s amazing, he’s romantic, and he’s willing to wait forever for the right girl to come back into his life. I want a boy who will write me every day for a year and is as fantastic as Noah!
  • Dean Winchester from Supernatural
I LOVE DEAN. I’m not a huge fan of Sam, but Dean? Oh my goodness. Even though I’m only two seasons into Supernatural (so no spoilers about seasons three and four, please!) Jensen Ackles is way easy on the eyes, and Dean is a great character. Full of smart quips and a tough exterior to deflect any type of introspection about feelings, he’s great. He will do anything, absolutely anything, for his family, and his complexities are what makes Dean, Dean. I know I’m not the only one to see Dean as a TV boyfriend, Dean has a huge legion of fans!
